Well, recently, iH8sn0w, the developer of Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool, has updated his tool to the version 2.8 for Windows, in order to support for iOS 5 beta that has already been jailbroken on Mac using Redsn0w 0.9.8. By for now, the developers have been managed to jailbreak the new iOS 5 tethered only, i.e. you have to connect the device to a computer when powering it on, in order to boot it into a jailbroken state.

Supported devices are as follow;

• iPhone 3GS
• iPhone 4 (GSM)
• iPhone 4 (CDMA)
• iPod touch 3G
• iPod touch 4G
• iPad 1

Before proceeding into the step by step guidelines on how to jailbreak iOS 5 beta on Windows using Sn0wbreeze 2.8, here are some points to remember;

• The new iOS 5 is intended for the developers only.
• New Sn0wbreeze 2.8 doesn’t add afc2 or hacktivate to prevent users from removing the UDID check after jailbreak.
• The unlockers must stay away from this.
• It’s a tethered jailbreak via iBooty.

Well, actually, the reason why you would want to use Sn0wbreeze is that presently, it’s the only jailbreak tool for iOS 5 beta that’s available for Windows users, and secondly, it will preserve your old baseband so that you can unlock your phone in future using Ultrasn0w.

NOTE : However, the current version of Ultrasn0w unlock tool hasn’t received the compatibility with the new iOS 5 yet.

How To Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta On Windows Using Sn0wbreeze 2.8

Creating Patched iOS 5 Firmware

Step – 1 : First, you have to download the Sn0wbreeze 2.8b1 for Windows, the full iOS 5 beta firmware and iTunes 10.5 that can be obtained if you are a registered Apple developer.

Step – 2 : Now, run sn0wbreeze and click the blue-colored arrow, as shown in the screenshot below;

Step – 3 : Then, Sn0wbreeze asks you to browse for the .ipsw file. Locate the iOS 5 firmware you downloaded in step – 1 as shown below;

Step – 4 : After Sn0wbreeze recognizes the firmware file, that can take a little while, you’ll be greeted with another screen. Then, hit “Next”.

Step – 5 : Well, out of all the options you should get, select “Expert Mode” to apply standard jailbreak with Cydia installed. After that, click “Build IPSW”.

If everything goes good, then, the Sn0wbreeze should be building your custom firmware. Well, this process needs no interaction, hence, ignore it and watch your favorite YouTube video or play the Pac-man game when Sn0wbreeze offers. Everything you can do, but, just don’t cancel this process, and once the process is done, you should see the screen as follows;

Step – 6 : After that, you’ll have to enter into the DFU mode that can be done easily using the onscreen instructions of Sn0wbreeze.

Well, if you enter DFU mode successfully, then, you should see the below;

Loading iOS 5 Onto Your Device Using iTunes

Step – 7 : First, open the iTunes 10.5 beta, choose your iOS device by clicking on its icon  on the iTunes sidebar. Simply, press and hold left “Shift” button on the keyboard and click on “Restore” button (as shown in the screenshot below), and point the program to the custom firmware that you have just built. But, don’t click “Update”, “Restore” or “Check for Update” options.

Now, wait until iTunes finishes installing iOS 5 onto your device. And, this process can take few minutes, hence, just keep patience. After getting completed, a clear cut message will be displayed at you.

Booting Into Tethered Mode

As it’s a tethered jailbreak, the device will have to remain plugged on every reboot, in order to boot into a jailbroken state. Also, you’ll require to carry out these steps whenever you power on, or reboot your device.

Well, for this purpose, we’ll use the iBooty.

Step – 8 : First of all, start iBooty on your desktop, run it, and choose the device you’ve jailbroken recently, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step – 9 : Now, hit “start” and follow the on-screen instructions, including entering DFU mode (again). After completed, the iBooty will perform the essential steps automatically to boot your device into a clean jailbroken state.

That’s it! You have done it! Now, you should be able to enjoy jailbroken iOS 5 beta on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
